Efficacy of Homoeopathic Medicines in Treatment of Acute Gastroenteritis

Abstract

Acute gastroenteritis is a common cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Conservative
estimates put diarrhoea in the top 5 causes of deaths worldwide, with most occurring in
young children in non-industrialized countries. In industrial countries, diarrhoeal diseases are
a significant cause for morbidity across all age groups. In such a scenario homoeopathy offers
a safe and cost-effective method of treatment. Judicious prescribing of homoeopathic
medicines based on totality of symptoms can cure the patient with complete elimination of
the disease. There are many homoeopathic medicines which are indicated in acute
gastroenteritis. This study studies their indications and efficacy in such cases.
