Obturator Hernia in Elderly Male: A Rare Case Report
Abstract
Obturator hernia is a very rare internal hernia. Obturator hernia has preponderance to old, thin female patients with associated co-morbidity, right side being most commonly affected. Clinical presentation of obturator hernia is nonspecific & may result in high morbidity & mortality if the diagnosis is missed. We report a case of 70 year old male with no co-morbidity & with a preoperative diagnosis of mechanical intestinal obstruction, turned out to be a case of left sided obstructed obturator hernia on exploratory laparotomy there by mandating inclusion of obturator hernia in the differential diagnosis of intestinal obstruction.
